Grand Hyatt Miami Beach Convention Center Hotel
The design of this 800-key convention center headquarters hotel places the massing of the guestroom wings at the furthest point away from the intersection of 17th Street and Convention Center Drive.聽 This results in north and east volumes with the low-rise podium lining the two streets.聽 The podium height relates to the scale of adjacent buildings like the New World Symphony, city hall and the convention center with only the narrow end of the guestroom wings reaching the street and facing the two parks.聽 The podium ground level is activated with a liner of retail and restaurant spaces that animate the sidewalks and begin to announce the life of Lincoln Road.聽 The retail conceals the otherwise less urban condition that drop-offs create when located on the front line of a hotel.
The hotel lobby is placed at the north side of the site. This is the closest location to the convention center arrival lobbies which is the most important source of hotel customers.聽 The drop-off is fully covered and protected from inclement weather including wind-driven rain.聽 It is accessible from both 17th Street and Convention Center Drive for maximum flexibility of origin or destination.聽 The long L-shape takes into account the ascent of ride-sharing services as well as vans, taxis and valet parking private vehicles for internal queuing within the site, keeping traffic off the roads.聽 The linear feet of drop-off is proportional to the size of the ballrooms and number of guestrooms.
The hotel has a registration lobby with luggage room, front office, sundry shop and lobby lounge served from a pantry. 聽A bank of escalators and dedicated elevators connects the lobby the convention center connecting bridge and the ballroom and meeting room levels.聽 Eight elevators lead to the pool deck, restaurants, fitness, spa, and guestroom keys. 聽Loading docks are shared with the Fillmore Miami Beach along a new service alley.聽 A jumbo elevator has direct access from the alley to access the ballrooms with a full-size vehicle as well as props.
There is one level of parking with 320 spaces.聽 The ramps are configured for ease of management of valet services at two extremes of the drop-off zone.
The project also involves the renovation and enhancement of the Fillmore Miami Beach at Jackie Gleason Theater.
